Application: "Translating recommendations and findings into effective actions – maintaining Hong Kong' slow HIV prevalence"

Applicant: Hong Kong AIDS Foundation
Objectives: The objectives of this programme are:
  1. to reach out to male clients of female sex workers (both local CSW and cross-border male clients of female sex workers CBCSW), their spouse, and those who have had high risk behaviours vulnerable to HIV infection and promote early testing and HIV prevention among them;
  2. to offer immediate emotional support, preventive education and risk assessment to users of the AIDS helpline, online AIDS enquiry service and the related internet intervention;
  3. to provide free, anonymous and confidential HIV testing with pre- and post-test counselling for male clients of female sex workers (CSW), and those who have had high risk behaviours vulnerable to HIV infection, including their spouses or partners, helping identify infected individuals and bridging them to HIV care and treatment;
  4. to provide necessary and timely psychosocial supporting services for PLHIV so as to help them sustain HIV treatment; actualise empowerment for the purpose of increasing their self-efficacy and acceptance; and enhance self-esteem and sense of well-being;
  5. to promote sexual health among PLHIV and help them maintain safer sex practice in order to achieve secondary prevention;
  6. to provide services catering to the specific needs of PLHIV elderly;
  7. to involve PLHIV as peer educators and in voluntary services related to HIV prevention and participation in and organisation of self-help activities;
  8. to implement sexual health education inclusive of knowledge and skill to prevent HIV infection among the MSM community including specific subgroups with high risk behaviours such as Young MSM (YMSM) and cross-border travelling MSM (CBMSM);
  9. to promote and sustain safer sex practice among the MSM community;
  10. to promote early and regular HIV and STI testing with counselling among the target group; and
  11. to mobilise MSM community including peer educators and others like MSM organisations and events, venues, businesses and websites etc. to take part in programmes on HIV/AIDS prevention.
