Application: A comparative study to investigate the gut microbiota of HIV patients with metabolic syndrome

Applicant: The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Objectives: The objectives of this project are:
Epidemiological studies indicate that HIV positive patients are prone to developing metabolic syndrome, including central obesity, hypertension, impaired fasting glucose and hyperlipidaemia. Nevertheless, the reason for the increased propensity for metabolic syndrome is unknown. The study aim to investigate the gut microbiota and its impact on metabolic syndrome among HIV positive patients.
