Application: Comprehensive HIV/STI Program with Sex Workers

Applicant: Midnight Blue
Objectives: The aims of this programme are:
  1. to scale up advocacy and education effort in the MSWs community through outreach activities in physical and virtual venues by empowering MSWs on occupational safety, better working environment, advanced social cohesion, early testing awareness, and thus developing Structural Interventions, to build the capacity and empower the MSWs community to take human rights: the cornerstone of an effective response to HIV and sex work;
  2. to motivate youth male sex workers in Hong Kong in NGO providing HIV preventing service, to raise the awareness of youth male sex workers on HIV/STI infection and prevention, to provide HIV, syphilis and HCV tests for youth male sex workers, and to raise the knowledge, attitude and behavior of safe sex among youth male sex workers;
  3. to conduct health interventions, education and advocacy among migrant male sex workers through various outreach activities, to motivate migrant male sex workers (MMSWs) to use condoms and have regular HIV and Syphilis blood testing, to provide migrant male sex workers with workshops and self-improvement trainings in order to enable them to convince their clients to have safe sex and improve the quality of their work environment, and to enhance cross-border co-operation and expand networks with AIDS-related NGOs in neighbouring countries and develop a diversified health intervention policy to effectively respond to the latest information on AIDS and sex workers;
  4. to increase the HIV/AIDS, STI awareness and safer sex practice among transgender sex workers in Hong Kong about HIV, AIDS, STI and safer sex practice, to motivate transgender sex worker to have regular HIV and Syphilis blood testing, to raise the ability and strategy and share news idea to negotiate safer sex with their clients by Occupational Safety Workshop and Self Improvement Courses among the transgender sex worker, to understand the situation of Transgender sex worker in Hong Kong and recommend the prevention strategy, to conduct training for staff on updated HIV and STD health intervention strategy and policy, as well as enhance the sensitivity towards gender issue, to mobilize and train transgender sex worker group who are willing to engage in AIDS prevention work, and to erase stigmatization and discrimination against TSWs, particular on matters that would leads to higher HIV/STI infection rate; and
  5. to reduce HIV infection and sexual risky behavior among cross-border Hong Kong MSM and clients of MSW/TSW (male/transgender sex workers), to provide HIV and Syphilis blood testing for cross-border Hong Kong MSM, who are sexually active to MSM in Shen Zhen or other cities in the Mainland China or South-east Asia, to provide HIV and Syphilis blood testing for Hong Kong clients of MSW/TSW, who are sexually active to MSM in Shen Zhen or other cities in the Mainland China or South-east Asia, to provide HIV/AIDS, STI and safer sex education for cross-border Hong Kong MSM and clients of MSW, and to provide positive intervention and care services to HIV positive MSM who are sexually active in Hong Kong.
