Application: Invest Hong Kong – Building a health population by intensifying HIV/STI prevention and care in the community

Applicant: AIDS Concern Foundation Limited
Objectives: The aims of this programme are:-
  1. to change the social environment in physical and virtual venues and the risk behaviour of the men who have sex with men (MSM) community with regards to HIV prevention through developing a stronger community involvement and owning HIV/STI as community agenda with increased capacity;
  2. to build a healthy and supportive environment for vulnerable YMSM (YMSM aged 25 or under who is sexually active with risk behaviours) and equip them with social skills and capacity for HIV prevention;
  3. to build an empowering alliance in the YMSM community and assess the needs of YMSM on emotional and sexual health to increase the effectiveness of HIV efforts targeting YMSM community in the future;
  4. to introduce an all-around intervention model to reach out to male clients of female sex worker in local and cross-border areas, collectively termed sex workers’ clients, including those exposed to HIV risk via paid or unpaid casual sex relationship with girlfriends, irregular sex partners, and sex relationships with multiple mistresses;
  5. to create a comprehensive sexual health model for 2 high risk populations, MSM and sex workers’ clients by expanding the HIV testing coverage through new media promotion, establishment of a community-based male sexual health examination centre as well as to mobilize the MSM and sex workers’ clients communities to recruit HIV testing users, exercising the social networking strategy;
  6. to increase the condom-use rate and HIV testing rate of cross-border MSM (from Hong Kong to Shenzhen) and their sex partners in mainland China by collaborating with stakeholders to create a supportive environment at gay venues, and strengthen the community network to prolong the effects of prevention interventions;
  7. to enhance the psychosocial wellbeing of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) who are newly diagnosed, hidden and lack support by providing constructive information, coping skills, and emotional support to lead to safer sex practice; and
  8. to keep HIV prevalence in Hong Kong low through engaging stakeholders of private and public clinics to provide information, emotional and peer supports for newly diagnosed PLHIV, support hidden MSM-PLHIV through online intervention and positive living campaign, as well as empowering PLHIV to be positive speakers to support their community members.
