Application: A qualitative study to investigate patterns of HIV and STD risk perceptions communication and their relationships with preventive behaviors in MSM in Hong Kong
Applicant: Center for Epidemiology & Biostatistics, School of Public Health, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Objectives: The objectives of this programme are:-
  1. to investigate HIV/STD risk perception/communication in local MSM and how such constructs affect condom use;
  2. to investigate the perceived HIV/STD prevalence in Hong Kong and how such perceptions affect HIV-related behaviors (testing and condom use);
  3. to investigate the meaning of ‘risk’ in MSM;
  4. to investigate how the MSM assess their risk and how it related to the perceived local HIV/STD prevalence and condom use;
  5. to investigate how MSM respond to the current surveillance and risk communication systems and how could that be improved;
  6. to investigate the reason why some MSM are not responsive to risk perception/communication; and
  7. to investigate the reason why some MSM practice high risk behaviors and disregards their risk.
