Application: A comprehensive study for utilization of VCT services in MSM – prevalence, patterns, needs and associated factors
Applicant: Center for Epidemiology & Biostatistics, School of Public Health, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Objectives: The objectives of this programme are:-
  1. to investigate the risk perception of HIV/STD prevalence and other factors (e.g. convenience, service provider, self-efficacy, peer influence etc.) affecting the decision of MSM for VCT;
  2. to investigate the number of non-testers who are hardily/easily be mobilized for VCT (stage of behaviour change concept);
  3. to investigate the number of MSM who repeatedly received VCT;
  4. to investigate the number of MSM who are unnecessarily repeating VCT;
  5. to investigate their choice of another methods of testing other than VCT ( eg. shortened version of VCT, self-test kit);
  6. to investigate and identify any factors and obstacles affecting MSMs receiving VCT (eg. cost, fear and/or discrimination);
  7. to understand how the MSM respond to the risk communications and how their risk perception affects their behaviors to VCT; and
  8. to investigate whether the VCT results will induce MSM to change their behaviors.
