Application: Setting up of a population-based HIV behavioral surveillance survey (BSS) of the men who have sex with men (MSM) population in Hong Kong
Applicant: Center for Epidemiology & Biostatistics, School of Public Health, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Objectives: The objectives of this programme are:-
  1. to keep track of behavioral changes in HIV-related behaviors (e.g. condom use for anal sex, service utilization including VCT, cross-border risk behaviors, drug use, sex-networking via internet) in the Hong Kong MSM by comparing data of the 2 rounds of BSS;
  2. to triangulate results with findings from other venue-based studies, including those of PRiSM (biological surveillance); and
  3. to investigate detailed percentages of all MSM attending different venues (e.g. bars, saunas, beaches, toilets) and using internet. Such population-based data can be used to weigh HIV prevalence obtained from different venues to give a better picture of the territory-wide prevalence.
