Application: Narrating Dangerous Sexual Choice: A Qualitative Research on MSM Practicing Un/safe Sex in Hong Kong
Applicant: Society for the Study of Sexualities and Sex-pol
Objectives: The objectives of this programme are:-
  1. to update the current research findings and to supplement the inadequacy of the existing quantitative and qualitative findings. The findings of the research project will present a full picture and give a more thorough analysis of the current situation;
  2. to educate and empower the participants in practicing safer sex and prevent them from engaging in high-risk activities;
  3. to find out the factors which affect people to practice unsafe sex and suggest effective strategies to promote behavioural changes in practicing safer sex among MSM. The ultimate goal is to help using public health and education resources efficiently so as to stop the spreading of AIDS among MSM;
  4. to prevent the spreading of the disease in local gay community by studying international experiences and researches, and adapting useful strategies in the local context; and
  5. to establish and maintain good connections and trusting relationships with the gay community and organizations through the research. In a long run, it can help health care organizations and academic organizations develop long term research projects, and risk assessment and management projects with the local gay community.
