Application: Accessing MSM through social network - the application of Respondent-Driven Sampling method to compare characteristics and service needs of MSM who are and are not venue-based
Applicant: Center for Epidemiology & Biostatistics, School of Public Health, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Objectives: The objectives of this programme are:-
  1. to use the RDS to estimate prevalence of risk behaviors, bisexual behaviors, cross-border risk behaviors, and self-reported STD in the Hong Kong MSM population;
  2. to investigate service coverage rates in the venue-based group and the non-venue based group and services needs of these two groups;
  3. to compare the above-mentioned characteristics of those attending venues (bars, saunas etc.) versus those who do not, and to assess the proportion of MSM being missed by the venue-based intervention; and
  4. to investigate social network of the MSM and the possibility of using this approach to access the non-venue based group.
